Union home ministry is going to
take legal action against famous painter MF
Husain.In an unprecedented move, the Union
home ministry has asked police in Delhi and
Mumbai to take “appropriate” action against
painter MF Husain for his “objectionable”
paintings of Hindu deities.
MF Husain has very close association with
Hyderabad. He has opened Cinema Ghar at
Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. His father in law
belongs to Old city.
The police in the two cities can treat the
directive as a complaint and proceed against
the 91-year-old artist, a source in the
ministry said. According to sources police
department has registered a case against
Husain and the crime branch is investigating
it.
“An official from the Union home ministry
had a telephonic talk with me about the
legal action to be taken against MF Husain,”
he said. The ministry would be told shortly
about the action taken, he said.
The law ministry, which was consulted by the
home ministry on the issue, advised that
Husain can be prosecuted as his paintings
have the potential to hurt religious
sentiments, the source in the ministry said.
A case is pending against Husain in a court
in Indore.
