Journalists Union urges liberalization of norms for house sites allotment

Hailing the Government’s decision to allot house sites to the working journalists in the twin cities, the Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ), a district unit of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) appealed to the government to liberalise the norms and guidelines to be followed for allotment of house sites to the journalists. HUJ President Mr. M. S. Hashmi and General Secretary Ms. K. Manjari thanked the chief minister Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy for approving the land allotment to more than 700 journalists

working in the twin cities in the Cabinet meet. They said that there was an immediate need to liberalise the guidelines for fixing the eligibility for allotment sites to media persons, as the prevailing conditions in newspaper industry were different.

As most of the journalists are working in newspapers without appointment letters, and without enjoying any statutory benefits like ESI, PF and others, they will be deprived of the facility, the HUJ regretted. In the above conditions, there is a need to liberalise the norms and guidelines to benefit the scribes it felt.

The Union leaders informed that HUJ would be organising an exclusive meeting on May 9, at Suravaram Pratap Reddy Auditorium, Desoddharaka Bhavan, wherein senior scribes would discuss the issue and frame guidelines. They appealed to the members to attend the meeting without fail.
