Sri Sri |

Srirangam Srinivasarao or Sri Sri (1910-1983)
was a popular modern
Telugu poet. He was born in Visakhapatnam. Sri Sri was the first true
modern Telugu poet to write about contemporary
issues which affected
day-to-day life of a
common man in a style and metre which were not
used in classical telugu poetry. Sri Sri was
famous as mahakavi. He
rocked the telugu
literature world with his Maha Prasthanam(literally
-
a long journey), an anthology of poems -- one
of his major works.
Some other major works of Sri
Sri include ' Maro Prasthanam',
'Siprali',
'Khadga Srushti'.Sri Sri had written songs
for Telugu films
too. His Padavoyi
Bharatheeyuda of Velugu Needalu
(1961), Telugu
veeralevara of Alluri Seetha
Rama Raju, Nenu saitham of
Rudraveena
were quite popular....

Chalam |

Gudipati
Venkatachalam aka Chalam , a Telugu writer and
philosopher, was one of the most influential
personalities in the modern Telugu literature.
Chalam was a strong critic of the fundamental
societal architecture of his time. He believed
that the barriers created by the society
precluded love and mutual understanding from
human relationships. From Brahmanikam: to be verified "
Stri oka mata valla,chupu vallaa purushuniki
sandichhindaa....ika atani adhikaraniki,
korikalaki,vinnapalaki antam undadu. Asalu
paryavasanam akkarleni stri modatininchi

Dr.C.Narayna Reddy |

Dr. Cingireddy
Narayana Reddy aka C Na Re received the
prestigious Jnanpith Award in 1988 for his
contribution to Telugu literature. He
was
born
at Hanumajipeta,Karimnagar district. He
completed is Master's
degree and Ph.D. degree in
Telugu literature from Osmania University.
He
worked in Osmania University as a professor and
attained very high positions and earned many
awards. It could be surprising to learn that
Dr.CNR studied in Urdu medium till his
graduation. Dr.CNR is the only
Telugu person who
has received Jnanpith Award other than
Sri Vishwanadha Sathyanarayana....

Ilaiah |
|
Kancha Ilaiah is an
social activist, thinker and scholar. He was
born into Kuruma Golla family on October 5,
1952. He is Dalit intellectual and Professor and
Chairman of Political Science, Osmania
University, Hyderabad. He is an out-spoken
activist in the Dalitbahujan (Scheduled and
Backwards Castes) and civil liberties movement.A
prolific author of numerous books and articles
in both English and Telegu, Dr. Ilaiah recently
finished a Post Doctoral Fellowship in the
United States to finish up his most recent book...
His book, Why I
Am Not A Hindu has been a best-seller in
India.

Devulapalli Krishna Sastry |

Devulapalli Krishnasastri is a Telugu poet and
was born in East Godavari district.He was brought up in family of court-poets and
he started writing poetry from a very young age. Krishnasastri's works changed significantly
after he met Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore
at Santiniketan in 1929. Krishnasastri joined
All India Radio in 1945 and has written number
of
plays for it.Andhra University has conferred
the title Kalaprapoorna
(The complete
artist) on him in 1975. He was awarded the
Sahitya Akademi Award too. He was given the
Padma Bhushan in 1976.
