THE SHOPPING
Bashirbagh-Abids-Nampally is the most prominent shopping area in Hyderabad. Some of the biggest showrooms for jewellery, textiles, handicrafts, footwear, ready-made and general goods are located in this area. The road leading to Nampally from Abids is lined with florists, mini supermarkets and shoe stores. Hyderabad’s famous sweet shop, Pulla Reddy sweets, is on this road. Begum Bazar is known for brassware shops. Osmangunj is a thriving wholesale market. Close by is Mozam Jahi Market with its fruit vendors, and Sabzi mandi, the vegetable market. Charminar-Pattergatti-Lad Bazaar area is a traditional seat for silversmiths and pearl dealers who also market semi-precious stones like garnets, topaz, jade and corals. This is the main market for Hyderabad bangles, gunmetal articles, Zardozi or gold silver thread and sequin work on fine cloth and silver leaf makers. Mahatma Gandhi Road, General Bazaar and Rashtrapathi Road form the main shopping district in Secunderabad. The M.G.Road complex has several new, trendy apparel showrooms, boutiques and gift emporia. Leading off to the east of R.P.Road is the noisy and colourful Monda Market, the biggest vegetable market in the city. Other famous shopping areas are Narayanguda and Chikkadpally, Secretariat Road and Khairtabad, Sultan Bazaar and Troop Bazaar.
