It seems like hunger strikes are
the order of the day in Andhra Pradesh politics, especially over the Telangana
issue.
Starting Thursday, actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi will fast for a 'United
Andhra'. The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief will begin his fast at Tirupati, to
express solidarity with those protesting against Telangana statehood.
The announcement comes after Chiranjeevi consulted his party's MLAs in Hyderabad
on Wednesday morning. But the like the Congress and Telugu Desam, PRP tpp seems
split over the issue.
Sixteen PRP MLAs from the coastal and Rayalseema regions sent in their
resignations last week and are putting pressure for supprt to a united Andhra.
On the other hand, Telangana district leaders of PRP are up in arms and there
are reports that those from Warangal and Karimnagar have already quit.
The Osmania University joint action committee and Kakatiya University students
have meanwhile declared that they will boycott not just Chiru's films, but those
of his family members too if PRP talks of a united AP.
Chiranjeevi had fought the Lok Sabha elections this year on a promise of
statehood for Telangana.
