The condition of Mr Y.S. Vivekananda
Reddy, brother of late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, deteriorated on Friday as his fast
for united Andhra Pradesh entered the fourth day.
He is a chronic bronchitis patient and he has developed serious respiratory
problems since he was sleeping out in the cold for the past three days, said Dr
M. Sureshwara Reddy, RMO of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.
He added that the senior leader, who is fasting in front of the Kadapa
collectorate, had been put on nebuliser and might also need oxygen if his
respiratory problem aggravated. We have to monitor his health for the next 24
hours, said Dr Sureshwara Reddy. He may need hospitalisation.
Leaders of various parties are also on fast-unto-death at 41 places in the state
and around 250 relay hunger strike camps are also on. Among the fasting leaders
are the Vijayawada MP, Mr L. Rajagopal and the Mylavaram MLA, Mr D. Umamaheswara
Rao.
Meanwhile, situation turned tense at Anantapur when TD activists obstructed the
police who arrested and shifted Ms Paritala Sunita, Mr Parthasarathy and Mr P.
Raghunadha Reddy to the hospital.
At Proddutur too, police arrested former MLA Mr Varadarajulu Reddy, whose fast
entered the fifth day, and shifted him to hospital. Angry Congress activists
attacked the shops in the town. The IG, Ms A.R. Anuradha, said that leaders were
being arrested and shifted to save their lives.
Police informed that 397 agitations took place on Friday in which 42,419 persons
took part. There were road blockades at 60 places and 161 agitators were taken
into preventive custody. Bandh was total in 23 towns and cities in Coastal
Andhra and Rayalaseema.
There was tension in Anantapur when irate mob set ablaze the Railway
Kalyanamandapam on First Road. However fire personnel managed to protect
properties. Meanwhile, the state capital also remained tense following the
re-arrest of four leaders of Telangana Joint Action Committee. The four,
identified as Yerrolla Srinu, N. Kumaraswamy, V. Srinivas and B. Stalin, were
arrested soon after their released from Chanchalaguda jail for their alleged
involvement in violence at Punjagutta.
