There is a strong rumour going on in the
Telangana Rashtra Samithi circles that it was Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao who was
responsible for the precipitation of TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao’s
fast-unto-death issue to this extent.
As everybody knows KCR had, in fact, called off the fast on Monday evening
itself by accepting the juice offered by the doctors at Khammam hospital, as
picturised by the police. He thought of returning to Hyderabad by Tuesday
morning and addressing a press conference, stating that he had to call off the
fast after seeing the violent incidents in Osmania University and elsewhere the
previous day; and that he did not want any violence in the agitation, but to
carry forward the movement in a peaceful and Gandhian manner.
But Harish Rao did not like the idea. He and some of the MLAs supporting him
expressed view that the party would lose credibility with such gimmicks and the
Telangana movement would die a natural death. So, he called up his friends in
Osmania University and other parts of the Telangana to take up agitations
against KCR’s decision in a big way. Within minutes, the call spread like wild
fire and the agitated students took out mock funeral procession of KCR and burnt
his effigies.
At the same time, channels started castigating KCR for dropping the gun before
firing the bullets. Revolutionary singer Gaddar reacted wildly and made
castigating remarks against KCR. This triggered a mass movement within hours and
students spontaneously entered the scene and hijacked the movement. And KCR had
no other option but to announce that the police had cheated him and he would
continue his fast.
Sources said KCR’s son K T Rama Rao had a quarrel with Harish Rao, blaming him
for the sudden turn of events. Now, the movement has slipped from the hands of
KCR and went into the hands of students and other organisations. And it forced
KCR to continue his fast to keep up his image!
