It is known news that the current
potboiler that is making rounds in the state of Andhra Pradesh is
the massive agitation that has been taken up by the scribes of
'Andhra Jyothi' in the wake of the arrest of its Editor and two
other senior journalists. However, there is a flip side to it that
is also doing rounds.
It is being heard that apart from the staff of the newspaper there
has not been any response whatsoever from the general public,
politicians or any other sections. It was assured by KCR that they
would come and stage a protest the next morning but not even a fly
turned up for anything. Reports say that there are two reasons for
that. Mainly, it is the lack of faith in the media that is the cause
for such a mild response. Most of them are the opinion that the
print media has become more of entertainers than the providers of
real news and truth. Moreover, the fact that this has something to
do with the SC-ST atrocities act are keeping the politicians at bay
since they fear it might turn out to be a delicate issue if they
voice their support.
The icing on the cake is the statement that has been given by the
home minister Jana Reddy who said that the government and the media
must live together like husband and wife. Despite few hiccups and
stressful moments, they must be together and move forward in life.
Jana's wit was met with the right response and it now remains to be
seen where this issue is going to end.
