An identity crisis of sorts is
haunting the Telugu Desam leaders belonging to Telangana region
these days, as they are singled out with every other political
party is strongly advocating the formation of a separate State.
After the byelections to Karimnagar Parliamentary seat in
December last, one Telugu Desam leader after the other has
started coming out in support of Telangana. They have understood
that unless they take a clear stand in favour of Telangana, they
would be losing out in the race and by next elections, they
might have to disappear from the scene.
That is why, most of the prominent Telangana leaders like
Devender Goud, Kadiam Srihari, Mothkupalli Narsimhulu, Gutta
Sukhender Reddy and E Peddi Reddy tried their best to get into
the Legislative Council, since they know that they would any way
be swept away in Telangana wave in the next elections. It may be
pertinent to note that even the Congress had earmarked 10 out of
20 seats in the Council under the Assembly quota for Telangana
leaders, who would definitely lose in the next Assembly
elections.
